Cash Advances at Your Fingertips
Project Overview
We've all been there—an unexpected expense pops up, and waiting until payday just isn't an option.
Our research highlighted a big demand for a feature that allows employees to access their earned wages instantly. That's where the Cash Advances feature comes in. It provides immediate financial relief directly through our payroll app on both web and mobile platforms.
Objectives and Goals:
- Provide a user-friendly mobile flow for requesting cash advances.
- Enable managers to create, approve, or decline requests.
- Offer employees a quick and accessible way to receive funds.
- Include the feature in premium plans to make them more attractive.
- Enhance user satisfaction and engagement with the app.
The MVP
Employee Flow:
- Request Cash Advance: Users can request a specific amount up to a predetermined limit directly from their smartphones.
- Track Request Status: Users can track the status of their requests and receive notifications.
- View History: Users can view their request history for reference.
Manager Flow:
- Manage Requests: Managers can view all requests, approve or decline them, and manage advance limits.
- Monitor Transactions: Managers can track all transactions and ensure compliance with company policies.

Understanding the Need:
- Identified that many employees required quick access to their earned wages to handle emergencies or unexpected expenses.
- Analyzed similar financial solutions in the market to benchmark features and user experiences.
Concept Development:
- Focused on web and mobile design for both iOS and Android platforms, ensuring an intuitive and efficient experience.

Challenges
- Approval Process: Balancing speed and thoroughness in approvals. We streamlined the process to make it fast but thorough enough to avoid misuse.
- Integration with Existing Systems: Ensuring smooth integration with existing payroll systems without disrupting current workflows.
- User Adoption: Encouraging users to trust and use the new feature, especially those who are hesitant about digital financial services.
Conclusion
Working on this project was a blast. It taught me so much about blending speed, usability, and security in financial design. Even though it hasn't launched yet, I'm proud of the work and excited about its potential impact.
Lessons Learned:
- Clear, simple communication is key to user trust.
- Iterative testing and feedback loops are crucial for refining user experience.
- User-centric design requires constant adaptation and responsiveness to feedback.
- Balancing speed and security in financial services is critical but achievable with the right processes.
